Aaron specializes in working with trauma and is EMDR trained. While trauma can sound like something you could only get from being in a war, the truth of trauma is much more mundane. Trauma is caused by being exposed to events that feel threatening to us. This could be caused by something like witnessing a murder, sexual assault, traumatic injury, and other sudden events. Trauma can also be caused by more prolonged events that we have exposure to. Examples of this might be growing up with parents who abused/neglected/belittled you, prolonged sexual abuse, religious abuse, and more.
Many of my clients experience symptoms like: recurrent intrusive thoughts, unwanted recall of the memory(ies), anxiety, depression, difficulty sleeping, irritability/anger, emotional dysregulation, and low self-esteem. You may be reading this, thinking to yourself "My experience was bad for me, but I wouldn't call it trauma." This is something I hear from the vast majority of the clients with trauma that I see.
My approach to therapy is eclectic, with a base of Adlerian Therapy. A therapy session with me might look like processing your current life events, feelings, or experiences and seeing how they connect to the past. We use this understanding of the past to impact your present, by creating strategic change in your present life, helping you get to the quality of life you deserve. If anything I have said here resonates with you, please reach out or schedule an appointment to begin your healing journey.
